Dentistry for Children

Not only are they more prone to cavities, but their bite and jaw development require extra attention. Our dentists are well versed in the dental needs of children and know how to provide specialized care in a fun and engaging way.

On top of keeping their smiles clean and healthy, we work with kids to help them develop good hygiene habits and a positive relationship with us. We use age-appropriate language to explain tools and concepts, avoiding “scary” terms so they feel comfortable and safe. With the right approach, we can help children foster a lifelong trust in their dental care that will promote their healthy smiles into adulthood and beyond.

Sealants

little girl learning how to brush properly in dental officeSealants are protective coatings that help in reducing the risk of cavities on permanent teeth. Although brushing and flossing are the best ways to prevent cavities, it is not always easy for children to clean every nook and cranny. Back teeth (molars) naturally have deep grooves on the biting surfaces that can easily build up plaque and decay.

Sealants are applied to new molars at the back of the mouth, typically after a cleaning to ensure that no plaque or bacteria remains. The treatment is simple and requires no anesthetic. Sealants will typically last for several years before they wear off and need to be replaced.

Fluoride

Our dentists provide fluoride treatment as part of the six-month cleanings for children. Fluoride helps strengthen and protect children’s teeth as they form. Both children and adults can benefit from topical fluoride to protect teeth from decay (cavities).

Restorative Care for All Ages

Common restorations include fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, and dental implants.

Our office provides a variety of personalized treatments to help care for your smile, no matter how complex your needs are. As a prosthodontist, Dr. Hoang has advanced training that helps her design and craft top-quality restorations that are functional, well-fitting, and aesthetically appealing.

Composite Fillings in Pleasant Hill

Tooth decay can occur at any stage of life, affecting your smile and oral health. Fortunately, our dentists can help restore your smile using composite fillings that provide top-notch protection for natural teeth while preserving the aesthetic appeal of your smile.

Our dentists use high-quality composite to deliver the best possible results. Overall, composite fillings offer the following benefits:

  1. They match the surrounding enamel, giving you a seamless aesthetic appeal
  2. Composite fillings effectively bond to your tooth enamel, creating a strong seal
  3. Composite fillings can fit into smaller spaces, which helps to preserve more of your natural enamel
  4. The fillings don’t involve mercury or other heavy metals
  5. You won’t experience sensitivity to hot and cold foods

Inlays & Onlays

3d render of tooth with dental inlayInlays are used to repair damage or decay when a filling would be too weak, but a whole crown isn’t needed. Inlays cover the chewing surface of a molar, including the grooves, but not the cusps (corners). Like crowns, inlays are created in advance in a dental lab and are  made of tooth-colored materials such as ceramic, porcelain, or special dental composites. The bonding process will help improve the strength of your tooth and seal the inlay to the tooth.

Onlays are also fitted inside the decayed tooth, but they extend over one or multiple cusps. Dr. Hoang uses tooth-colored onlays made from porcelain or ceramic, allowing the restoration to effectively bond to the tooth.

Crowns to Protect and Restore Damaged Teeth

A crown is a custom-made cap that snugly fits over your tooth to stabilize it and protect it from decay or damage. Our dental office provides high-quality dental crowns made of ceramic and designed to match natural teeth, allowing you to enjoy a brilliant smile.

What Can a Crown Fix?

Crowns can effectively correct a broad range of oral health problems, and their longevity and durability make them a great choice for tooth restoration. When properly maintained, dental crowns can last a decade or more. Here are a few situations where a dental crown might be right for you:

  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Teeth with advanced decay
  • Large fillings that appear vulnerable
  • Strengthening teeth after root canal therapy
  • Improving bite or alignment
  • Small, worn, or misshapen teeth
  • Completing a dental implant

Dr. Hoang can adjust your existing restorations that have been worn down or may not be the best fit, improving how they function in your bite. There is no need to replace a crown that is still secure if she can adjust it to fit well.

A Fixed Bridge to Complete Your Smile

As we age, our teeth to do. Failure to replace missing teeth can negatively affect your oral health and confidence. Fixed bridges are ideal for patients who want an affordable option to return function back into their bite.

A fixed bridge is a porcelain prosthetic that can help replace up to three teeth in a single gap. The bridge consists of prosthetic teeth (also known as pontics) suspended between two dental crowns placed over the neighboring healthy teeth. This helps to support the fixed bridge and anchor it in position. Bridges can also be supported by dental implants if you qualify.

Full & Partial Dentures to Return Function and Aesthetics

woman holding denturesDentures have been in use for centuries as a tooth replacement solution, but modern dentures use innovative designs and materials to create stronger, more comfortable, and secure replacements. If you have multiple missing teeth, a denture may be the right choice for you.

Our dental practice uses only top-quality materials to create custom dentures that fit and function well for you. We will recommend different types of dentures depending on how many teeth you have left as well as your overall oral health.

There are three common types of dentures to choose from, including:

Full Dentures - Full dentures are designed to replace an entire arch of teeth on the lower or upper jaw. Our full dentures include a sturdy acrylic base, with prosthetic teeth made of acrylic or ceramic. They rest on the gums and utilize suction or adhesive to keep the teeth in position.

Partial Dentures - Partial dentures are ideal for patients who still have some healthy teeth left. A partial denture replaces the missing teeth and takes the burden off the remaining healthy teeth to help preserve them.

Implant-Supported Dentures - An implant-supported denture is precisely fitted to absorb the pressure of chewing and hold the denture firmly and comfortably in position. They fit and function like real teeth, and you won’t need to remove them for cleaning.

All-on-4® Dental Implant-Supported Dentures

patient looking at dental xray while sitting in dental chairAll-On-4 dental implants are a remarkable technique for replacing missing teeth. With All-On-4, an entire arch of teeth can be supported on only four carefully-placed implant posts. Since the implants consist of titanium, they can easily fuse with your jawbone and provide lasting support and function. All-on-4 dental implants can also help prevent future bone loss in your jaw. Overall, the full arch can instantly transform your smile as compared to individual implants.

We refer our patients to a trusted oral surgeon to complete All-On-4 implant placement. Dr. Hoang will go with you to the surgeon’s office and place the restoration on-site so you can leave with new teeth in place.

Extractions

While we strive to preserve your natural smile whenever possible, sometimes a tooth will need extraction due to damage, infection, or overcrowding. Children may also need a baby tooth extracted if the adult tooth is emerging around it. Our dentists have special training to extract teeth when necessary.

Generally, we perform simple extractions for damaged teeth and wisdom teeth in our office. If you have a more complex case, we can refer you to a trusted oral surgeon.
